Today, The Master’s Seminary officially opens The MacArthur Center for Expository Preaching. Opening a center for preaching is an important milestone in the life of our institution. Other seminaries have centers for preaching, but no other center focuses exclusively on exposition. The MacArthur Center will prioritize this specific art form—one that has defined TMS since the school opened its doors 35 years ago—as it provides resources for preachers everywhere and of all skill levels.

Of course, the center for preaching is named after the seminary’s founder, and chancellor, John MacArthur. For more than a half-century, he has modeled expository preaching week-after-week. We are eager to carry on his legacy and we believe The MacArthur Center will be an essential resource for expositors everywhere.

As the seminary launches The MacArthur Center, we want to tell you a little about it, and point you to some resources that will be particularly helpful for your ministry. To that end, we’ve put together a brief FAQ section.

What is The MacArthur Center for Expository Preaching?
It’s a resource center that equips a generation of preachers, through education, modeling, and mentorship, in the art of expository preaching.

Where is The MacArthur Center Located?
The MacArthur Center is located inside The Master’s Seminary building on the campus of Grace Community Church in Los Angeles. The center is both a gathering place for preachers and a tribute to the history of preaching.

How Does The MacArthur Center Serve Preachers?
First, it educates. At MacArthurCenter.org, there are articles, videos, and podcasts that can help anyone, from a brand-new Christian to a long-time pastor, know what expository preaching is, why it’s the superior form of preaching, and what it takes to deliver an expository sermon.

Second, it models what world-class exposition looks like. At the website, TMS faculty and staff recommend sermons, most of which are from men faithfully preaching and pastoring without an online, publishing, or plenary conference platform. Through these examples, we show what faithful expository preaching looks like.

Third, it mentors. The MacArthur Center’s sermon mentorship program invites any preacher, from a first-timer to a pastor with hundreds of sermons in his portfolio, to send a sample sermon to us. A faculty, staff, or alumni of The Master’s Seminary will watch the sermon, then provide feedback during a video call. Each sermon review costs $100. If you or someone you know is interested in a mentorship session, please let us know. We want to serve you and help strengthen your preaching ministry, or the preaching ministry of someone in your church.

How Do I Get Involved at The MacArthur Center?
Visit the website, MacArthurCenter.org. There you will find a library of resources, including recommended sermons that provide strong models of expository preaching, articles that explain how to build a sermon, conversations on preaching, and much more. Also make sure you subscribe to The MacArthur Center podcast on iTunes, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. As we launch the center, our first season of the podcast will look at the life and preaching ministry of John MacArthur. This season is eight episodes, each about 30 minutes long. You’ll enjoy the documentary format, as we tell John’s story, examine what makes him unique, and look at why his preaching is so influential. In this story, there are lessons for all preachers.

Let us know if you have any questions or if there are any specific ways we can serve you.
