Mark Zhakevich is Associate Professor of New Testament at The Masterās Seminary and an elder at Grace Community. He specializes in Johannine literature and the Jewish and Roman world of the New Testament. Along with a B.A. from UCLA, and an M.Div. and Th.M. from The Masterās Seminary, he also has a Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh, where his dissertation supervisor was Larry Hurtado.
Dr. Zhakevich was born into a Christian family in the USSR, where it was illegal to be a Christian at the time. His parents were actively involved in the underground church there. His father was a pastor and his mother interpreted for foreign visitors. Dr. Zhakevich became a Christian at age nine, after hearing a sermon on heaven and hell. Shortly after his 10th birthday, he and his family immigrated to the United States and became members of Grace Community Church in Los Angeles.
At TMS, Dr. Zhakevich teaches Exegesis of the Gospel of John; New Testament Introduction; New Testament Survey; and Rome, Judea, and Jesus. He also serves as executive pastor at Grace Community Church, and leads the Foundation Bible study.
